District Councillor for Hitchwood, Offa and Hoo & County Councillor for Hitchin Rural
About David
In 2021, I will have served this area as a Councillor for 30 years. I have built up a strong bond of trust and mutual support with my Parish Councils, Community Groups and, of course, my constituents.
I have served as an Executive Member for Leisure at District Council, and have been Chairman of the Planning Control, Licensing, and Southern Rural Committees.
My daily contact, accrued skills, and close connection with my constituents in our Division, my fellow Councillors, and our Member of Parliament has, I believe, has made me a better Councillor, and area champion.
I regularly attend the many Parish Council meetings in this Division, to inform the Parishes of developments and proposals in our areas, and receive enquiries about Council proposals and activities.
By liaising regularly with fellow Councillors, our Member of Parliament, and Council Officers, I am part of a team which works together to help solve problems which arise in our Division. I have recently helped children to gain places at schools in Hertfordshire, which had previously been denied to them. I have organised essential school repairs and financing, and I have addressed Housing Associations on numerous tenancy issues. This, and lots more.
I continue to represent our constituents in opposing unwarranted massive expansion of Luton Airport, which will have major permanent negative impacts on our way of life, in so many ways.
Luton’s Gain Must Not Be Our Pain!
I am opposed to the unnecessary erosion of our beautiful Green Belt to build houses, especially around our villages close to Luton. I have addressed meetings, and made written representations to the Government Inspector, pointing out that the required housing numbers are now considerably lower than forecast, and that, in any case, our lanes, and infrastructure just could not cope. I will address him to give evidence supporting the view that East of Luton is now no longer needed to be a prime building site, when he reconvenes the Examination of the proposed Local Plan.
I am in discussion with our Police and Crime Commissioner, David Lloyd, alongside Bim Afolami, our MP, to promote road safety in our villages. This includes the introduction of 20 mph speed limits, Speed Indicator Displays, physical traffic calming installations, and “Drivesafe” local initiatives.
This is also supported by the extensive road and lane improvements that I have sought to fund at County Council level.
A very pleasurable part of my role as a County Councillor, is to assist with Grant applications for Parishes, Community Buildings, Clubs, and more recently, very successful community food banks. This has proved to be a “lifeline” to our village halls and sports centres, etc. in this pandemic era.
My daughter Faye, who is a senior member of our family firm, which employs local people, is also a District Councillor, which enables us to speak daily on local issues.
I am a committed Conservative, and promote our policies within our area.
